Arbor Day
Arbor Day
Committee members purchase trees, plan an Arbor Day program, and make arrangements at a designated civic area and/or school. All members are encouraged to participate. This project educates the public of the benefit of trees such as providing habitat, cleaning the air, and preventing soil erosion.
Marksville Garden Club's Arbor Day Committee members plant a Brown Select Satsuma tree at the Mother Goose Head Start Center in Hessmer.
Pictured are Jan Lemoine and Town Worker Eric. The children at the Head Start Center were given instruction on Arbor Day plantings, and were watching from the playground nearby.
Historic Hypolite Bordelon House
The purpose of this project is to educate all visitors to the tourist center of our town and call attention to the beautiful native plants growing in the home gardens. Native plants will be donated by the club and placed in the home’s garden as they become available.

Civic Beautification
Civic Beautification
Committee members are supervisory in nature and are responsible for the overall enhancement of our community by motivating the citizens, especially in places of business or public spaces, to create flower beds; to increase awareness of environmentally friendly or native plants; to add to their existing beds; and clean up unsightly areas. This project may involve the entire club and assignments will be made by committee members, if areas are found in need of special care.
In photo above: Beginning in 2017, an ongoing MGC project refurbished the landscaping at the Marksville Atrium in the Courthouse Square. The photo is from May 14, 2022, after a weeding and sprucing up of the flower beds.
